Summertime Activities

I'm still waiting…for preschool. Everybody that I see, I tell them that it's going to be a long time until I go to preschool, in the fall! In the meantime, Mommy tries to plan activities during the week for us. We usually make it to the pool to cool off and practice swimming. I'd rather play with my dinosaurs in the shallow area than swim and get my hair wet. We also go to the lazy river sometimes and although I tell Mommy I want to go around "hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of times", I'm usually ready to get out after one ride around the river. The other day, we took a special trip downtown to the Marbles Museum! My favorite part of course was the bus and ambulance, but this time I also had fun building cars with Mommy and racing them down the chute. After we were done with the museum, we met Daddy for a picnic lunch next to the downtown farmer's market. I had such a fun morning I passed out in the car ride home!

Working Like Daddy

It's certainly been different not having Cora around during the day now that she is in kindergarten. I miss her, even the bickering. As a special treat on Friday afternoon I got to go visit Daddy downtown at work and help him move his office. He took me to get lunch at a restaurant and we took it back to his office to eat. After lunch, I helped him carry things down the hall and break in his new workspace once we had moved everything. Now I know exactly what he does all week when he is at work!

Over the weekend Cathy came to visit us and we went swimming! She was great at helping me be more comfortable in the water. She taught me how to blow bubbles into the water by pretending I was a blowing out a candle and she helped me kick my legs to practice swimming.  When we left the got out of the pool, my hair was actually dripping wet! Hopefully Mommy will take me to the pool while Cora is at school so I can continue getting used to the water.

Mimi and Papa Visit!

We had an excellent visit with Mimi and Papa! It was filled with lots of fun activities. The fun started before they even arrived on Thursday because Mommy took us to the observation deck at the airport to watch the airplanes take off and land! I wish we could have stayed longer, but we saw Mimi and Papa's plane land so we had to go pick them up at the terminal. It was a really hot day when they arrived so we went to the pool in the afternoon. I had fun swimming, especially with Papa who showed me how to climb the ladder so I could jump into the water in the deep end! Mommy can tell that I'm getting braver in the water because now I just walk right in the water after Cora.

On Friday we went to the Museum of Life and Sciences in Durham. That is a fun place - especially since there is a train to ride! I enjoyed seeing dinosaurs, playing with boats, running in the spray water, building blocks with Papa, roaring in the big picnic dome, and jumping on interactive mats (until a little boy rolled on top of my head and bruised my nose!). I'm a tough guy so that didn't matter. The most important part is I had a really great time at the museum with Mimi and Papa!

The following day we went blueberry picking. It was much the same experience as the last time -mostly eating, not picking and complaining after 10 minutes that I was done. Thankfully Mommy would let me eat blueberries out of her basket. Daddy was picking blackberries and he found a nest with baby birds in it. It was cool seeing that. If it hadn't been for Mimi and Papa helping us pick I'm not sure how many berries our picking trip would have actually produced. That afternoon, Mommy and Daddy went out so Mimi and Papa babysat us. I read books with Mimi, played parking garage with Papa, rode bikes at the pond and blew bubbles! It was great spending time with Mimi and Papa, I'm so glad they came to visit us.

Happy Fourth of July!

The IDEA of fireworks can be a bit daunting. I was a bit apprehensive about what fireworks would be like, and whether they would be too loud (even though I have seen them before). On our way to go see the fireworks in Wake Forest on the 3rd, I asked this many times. Following the display however, the new question was, when will it be July 4th again!!??!?! I loved the fireworks. We waited and waited together on our blanket for what seemed like forever, but it finally got dark, we started to see stars, the lights went out and we saw the fireworks! Luckily, there was more fireworks fun to be had on the 4th. After a picnic on the porch and blueberry pie we went outside at dusk and got to light sparklers! That too I was a bit nervous about at first, but once I got the hang of it I enjoyed them! We got to watch some fireworks on TV after that to end our fun holiday. Perhaps I won't have to wait a whole year for fireworks, but even if I do it will be worth it!
The week before the 4th we picked blueberries to enjoy at home and for our blueberry pie. Okay, I'll admit to eating more berries than I picked in my basket and I gave up picking after about 10 minutes, but I walked around sweating in the humid morning weather so it counts! I participated!
